Game Commands

A wide variety of commands exist within the InfiniQuests RPG system, collections of options to convey to the virtual Game Master (GM) a multitude of needs, selections and choices while playing the game. While a conventional "pencil-and-paper" RPG can address a nearly infinite number of situations and scenarios (limited only by the imaginations of the human GameMaster and those playing), an online server and connected browser has far more limitations and so a substantially more-simplified approach has been baked into the InfiniQuests commands system.

Sample screenshot of the InfiniQuests commands panelTo address the needs of the player character and convey specific instructions to the virtual GM, a series of context-sensitive dropdown menus are used, controls that populate depending on both the situation as well as particular needs of the game player. These controls display and are always populated in a particular order:

  • WHO - Determines whether the player wants the entire party to act ("Non-Specific") or whether a specific hero should act. Note that the player character is listed before
  • all the other characters within the party.
  • WHAT - Determines what selected activity the entire party or chosen hero should perform.
  • TARGET - Allows an exact selection to be made (such as a Potion of Healing if the Use Item menu was selected).
  • FOCUS - Finally, some commands require a fourth option (such as who the Potion of Healing should be used on).

Again, commands are context-specific so many only appear in specific situations. Once an appropriate set of dropdown menu selections are made, the green "Submit Commands to GM" button will become active and the command can then be issued to the GM.

Game Modes

Certain commands are only available in certain situations (modes). Within the InfiniQuests system, there are four general modes in which particular game commands appear:

  • Default - The default game context, these general commands are made available when the player is not experiencing one of the other three contexts immediately below..
  • Combat - These commands are activated when the party enters into combat with a character or set of monsters within the current encounter area.
  • Encounter - Activated when a new encounter area is reached and potential combatants are directly encountered. These commands can sometimes allow a party to avoid combat if desired.
  • Shopping - Made available when the party interacts with a shopowner or other organized institution (such as a town bank) and wishes to buy, sell or otherwise conduct business.
